My Loves

To me there is nothing quite so sweet as a little girl with her Daddy.

Another Afternoon Craft

I whipped up this simple dress for Addison this morning/afternoon. I've had the pattern for a month now and have been wanting to give it a try. I wish all my sewing projects went together this smoothly! I started it after I'd done my morning chores, while Addison was napping, and was able to get most of it done while she slept and then finished it up a little later. It probably took me about an hour to complete. I do believe it will look darling on Addison this spring. I do see several more of these little dresses in Addison's wardrobe future.

Making A Home

All day I did the little things,

The little things that do not show;

I brought the kindling for the fire

I set the candles in a row,

I filled a bowl with marigolds,

The shallow bowl you love the best-

And made the house a pleasant place

Where weariness might take it's rest.

***

The hours sped on, my eager feet

Could not keep pace with my desire.

So much to do, so little time!

I could not let my body tire;

Yet, when the coming of night

Blotted the garden from my sight,

And on the narrow, graveled walks

Between the guarding flower stalks

I heard your step; I was not through

***

You came into the quiet room

That glowed enchanted with your bloom

Of yellowed flame. I saw your face,

Illumined by the firelit space,

Slowly grow still and be comforted-

"It's good to be at home," you said.

Afternoon Craft

I decided to work on a fun project this afternoon. Addison and I had MOPS this morning and then had a rare Thursday afternoon at home. Instead housework I decided to tackle a craft project I've been meaning to try. Addison's grandma Hoagland gave her an adorable bright pink and black shirt and I thought matching bows would be a great addition to the outfit. I have attempted bows in the past and failed miserably, they've all ended up in the trash, so I'm not sure why I thought these would turn out any differently. But, I decided to try anyhow, and I am quite proud of how they turned out. They are not fancy, and by no means perfect, but they are cute! Especially with those beautiful pig tail curls!

Our Valentine's Day Get Away

We had a wonderful mini road trip yesterday. We made an extremely quick trip down to KS for the Equifest. We left early Sunday morning, enjoyed the horses and momma enjoyed a little retail therapy, we had a nice dinner out, and then had a great evening at the hotel. Addison loved the pool! We went to bed early, and then headed home this morning. It was just what our family needed.

Also, Happy Anniversery to Alan and Connie who are celebrating 35 years together today!!!

Happy Valentines Day!

Just a day late. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Lincoln's Birthday

Yes, it is February 12th, President Lincoln's birthday. Lincoln's birthday is a long anticipated holiday at our house, reason being, Lincoln Log Cake! Every year for as long as I can remember my family has celebrated this occasion with a delicious cake. My mother started the tradition many years ago after reading of such a thing in her well read, Mrs. Sharp's Tradition, and I can't remember a year without celebration. This is actually the third one I made this week. It was our turn to take food for our Tuesday night Bible study, so Adam suggested Lincoln Logs.

Lincoln Log

from the kitchen of

Leora Schneider

5 eggs separated at room temperature

1 cup powdered sugar

3 tablespoons cocoa

1/8 teaspoon salt

Preheat oven to 400 degrees, grease, line with wax paper and then grease and flour a 10x15 jelly roll pan. Beat egg whites in large bowl until stiff, gradually add 1/2 cup powdered sugar until stiff peaks form, set aside. In medium size bowl beat egg yokes until thick and lemon color. Gradually add 1/2 cup powdered sugar, cocoa and salt on low speed, occasionally scraping the sides of the bowl. Fold into egg whites and pour into pan. Bake for 15 min or until cake springs back when touched. remove from pan onto tea towel sprinkled with cocoa and peel wax paper away. Gently roll up in towel and place on cooling rack.

Filling/Frosting

cool whip

powdered sugar

cocoa

Mix to taste, I use a large tub of cool whip, about 1/2 powdered sugar and 2-3 tablespoons cocoa.

After cake has cooled unroll and spread with cool whip filling then roll up and frost outside. Freeze until serving. Enjoy!
